Monica Langel, TRE® Certified Provider

Founder of R&L Somatic Services, LLC

Monica was raised in Anchorage, Alaska! After college, she went back home for about 6 years to pursue her career where she met her husband, Tucker!  In 2022, the two (plus the two dogs) decided to treck down to the lower 48 and settle in Phoenix, AZ!  Monica & Tucker currently have 2 fur babies - Vex & Isabella.  During her free time, she enjoys hiking, fly-fishing, bird hunting with her dogs & husband, and riding horses!

How did Monica get into TRE®?

Monica was raised by her father, a single parent, who knew that he needed help raising her.  So, he had therapists to help guide him as a parent and help her develop her emotional intelligence.  Despite her father's best intentions, the time spent with the therapists never seemed to improve their parent-child relationship nor did it help her learn how to self-regulate.  It wasn't until she was a graduate student that she found her first trauma-informed therapist.  And in 2016, this therapist introduced her to her current, long-term therapist who follows the somatic approach.  Monica was amazed that she was finally seeing results!

Although Monica had done TRE® in the past sporadically, it wasn't until mid-2021 that she fully embraced TRE® in her healing journey.  During this time frame, she had started a meditation group at her work, which is when she found her love for teaching others the somatic approach to self-regulation.  Near the end of 2021, she had an "awakening of the soul," which is when she realized she wanted to become certified to teach it.  She researched, but found that most modalities required her to go back to graduate school to pursue clinical psychology.  She felt hopeless, because that would take many years of school.  With her dream of becoming a parent someday, she felt this wasn't what she wanted to do.  Then one day, she found that TRE® offered certifications without this requirement.  The more she learned about the organization and its mission, the more she realized that TRE®'s mission aligned with her own values.  Specifically, TRE® is designed to be a self-help tool that, once learned, can be used independently as needed throughout one’s life, thereby continuously supporting and promoting personal health and wellness.  In other words, TRE® empowers people to take care of themselves instead of having to rely on a therapy, which can be unaffordable for most.

Why TRE®?

TRE® is for everyone since it is a mechanism that we all have as human beings!

Monica has shown people from all different backgrounds how to do TRE®.  Her favorite part of TRE® is when she sees the face of her friends or clients after they complete a session.  It looks as if they had a nice massage!

Furthermore, TRE® was developed based on research in war-torn countries, so it is no wonder that TRE® has helped Monica heal her generational trauma.  To give some background, Monica's maternal grandfather was a displaced person (aka refugee) in Germany (now Poland) and experienced severe trauma from the war as a child.  For example, military troops invaded the farm he lived on and he had to "clean up" after the battle ended.  On her paternal side, her grandmother came from Japan who lived through a war as a child and foraged in the mountains for food.  Monica's father and paternal grandfather were both war veterans.  Monica has found that most people have a family member or ancestor that was impacted by war, so she feels strongly about the benefits to doing TRE® even if the person never personally experienced the trauma of war directly.

Although, Monica feels strongly about the benefits of TRE® for veterans and refugees, she has seen the power of healing it has brought for people who are not under either category.  She hopes that you will try a few sessions, so that you can see how great TRE® really is!

Are there any other services offered?

Yes! Monica also does mindfulness activities that are super fun! She can go over cool handouts and techniques to help ground you. For example, we can do art-focused meditations (such as feelings illustrations), go over various handouts (such as those over boundaries), etc! The point of these mindfulness sessions are to drop into our bodies and build self-awareness! :-)
